Class Syllabus

Fremont High School    

Instructor: MR. KOENIG  ( pronounced K - NIG )

Text:  Glencoe World History  (2003)

Course Layout:  The course will consist of one half term or quarter and 5 credits will be given
upon completion.  A variety of activities will be completed through daily work, tests, exams, and projects.

Materials Needed:  It is the student’s responsibility to bring the necessary materials to class
daily.  If a student continues to come to class unprepared, disciplinary action will be taken.  Students are   required to bring the following materials to class every day.
-The Glencoe World History Textbook
-A writing utensil
-A NOTEBOOK FOR WORLD HISTORY ONLY
-Your School Issued Planner
-Your Brain

Grading System:  Students will receive letter grades following the guidelines laid forth in the Fremont Senior High Handbook.  Grades will be posted by the instructor on a regular basis.  Students will be assessed upon the following materials.

30%              Daily Work:  This includes daily assignments such as completing the Daily Kick Start, Journaling, writing out Vocabulary Words, and taking Notes, which is checked and graded by the instructor.  Students will also complete daily work assignments and some Worksheets in class.

15%              Reading Quizzes:  Students will be required to read materials from the textbook daily.  The reading schedule is included in the back of the syllabus.  There will be an unannounced reading quiz on the day following the student reading the assignment.

25%              Chapter & Unit Tests:  Students will be assessed on their knowledge of each chapter after the material has been covered.  There will be of these 22 Chapter Tests and 4 Unit Tests

25%              Unit Project:  There will be four Unit Projects during the course.  Students will also receive a significant grade for their Unit projects.  There will be 2 unit projects, which are to be completed by the student individually. These include a biography summary and a 5 page biography paper.

15%              Exams:  Students will take one cumulative Exam at the end of the Quarter.  The Quarter 1 Exam covers Chapters 1-11. The Quarter 2 Exam covers Chapters 12-32.  A Study Guide may or may not be provided.

*Remember…  Grades are not given, They Are Earned.  The grade that you receive in this class is the grade that YOU have earned.



Extra Credit:  Extra Credit is not given on a regular basis.  Do your best on all work at all times    and extra credit will not be needed.  The instructor’s job is to help each student to be successful.  The student’s job is to give their best effort.  If you give your best effort in this course, the instructor and the student will both be successful.

Office Hours:  Please do not be afraid to come in and see the instructor at anytime if you have any questions.  Mr. Koenig will be happy to help you with any problems or questions that you have.  The office hours are as follows: 
·        Before School   7:25- 7:50 AM
·        After School     3:20- 4:00 PM
Please feel free to contact Mr. Koenig anytime you need help.  Most of the time Mr. Koenig will be in his room B105, but he may also be found in the teacher’s lounge, the football practice field, the weight room, the outdoor track, or the wrestling room after school.


Cheating:  Anyone involved in any degree of an episode of cheating will get an automatic zero.    Please be ethical in this matter at all times.

Attendance:  Class attendance information can be found by consulting the Fremont Senior High Student Handbook.  Consistent attendance will increase your chance for success just as consistent   absence will cause your chances for success to decrease.  Please make the choice to come school. 

Make-up Work:  It is the responsibility of the student to make up all missed course work.  Please    see the instructor before or after class regarding all work that needs to be made up.  The instructor reserves the right to give a different form of quiz or test to a student making up a quiz or test.  Excessive make-up work may result in a 5th block.

Video Material:  We will watch some documentaries, clips of Hollywood films, informational short films, and text related material on a daily basis.  These images and sounds are meant for educational purposes only and will be carefully selected by the instructor at all times.  Some of these may have been given a “R” rating by the film industry, but images and sounds of vulgar and profane content will not be shown in the class.  By signing below you are giving your student the permission to view the above mentioned in class.  If you have issues or concerns, please call Dan Koenig at 727-3056.
